General Education

Main goals of country policy in general education are:

A. Understanding the responsibility of the country's interests, traditions and values;
B. Maintenance and protection of natural environment;
C. Effective usage of technological or other intellectual achievements;
D. Living independently, making own decisions;
E. Be the Creator, create the values himself and not living only at the expense of existence;
F. Continuous development of their capabilities and interests throughout their lives and their Maximum realization both within the country and beyond its borders;
G. Communicate with individuals and groups;
H. Being a law-abiding, tolerant citizen.

Levels of secondary school

Full general education includes three levels and 12 years.
The levels of full general education are
A) Primary - I-VI grades;
B) Basic VII-IX grades;
C) Secondary - X-XII grades.
Primary and basic education is mandatory.
Full general education implies to overcome the level of achievements established by all three levels in general education, successful completion of school graduation exams and certification by the country with the relevant document.
After receiving basic education - basic general education certificate is issued. On the basis of a basic level, a person has the right to go from school to pursue studies in the third level of general education or professional education program.
In order to continue studying in higher educational institute, individual must obtain full general education certificate.
 
Education in general educational institutions is carried out in accordance with the national curriculum, which is elaborated and developed by the national curriculum department of the Ministry of Education and Science. The national curriculum is based on the national goals of general education, is result oriented and suited for the student. Structurally it includes the distribution of hours for all stages of general education, the terms and recommendations of the organizational environment, the necessary activity of students, the list of achievements (skills and knowledge) that the student should have obtained at the end of each level and the description of the skills and knowledge acquired, and subject programs. General education can be obtained in educational institutions of public and private legal entities – schools.

Alternative ways of general education

General education may be acquired in alternative ways, in the manner prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, taking into
Consideration the age peculiarities and labour and family conditions of pupils. The State shall protect freedom of educational choice for pupils and parents. Freedom of educational choice for parents shall not imply
A. the right to avoid mandatory education;
B. education that prevents the achievement of the objectives of this Law
General education may be acquired through external studies. An external student shall have the right to acquire a document certifying a complete general education, if he/she achieves the achievement level determined by the National Curriculum and successfully passes the school leaving examinations through external studies.

External tests, except for those individuals who are independent of individual class / classes programs in general education and are externally tested to prove their respective education, which will enable them to continue studying in class / level afterwards, as well as those students who are on the basic-middle level of the academic year, and were absent 30% of the hours allocated for a specific subject during the academic year, the student is evaluated only on the basis of passing the examination.
